h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I notice that the entry on the Monument in London A1105426 has a small audio-visual presentation. This entry is dated 2003. The presentation is in Real Audio (I think) and is hosted within BBC rather than going to U-Tube.

Do you know anything about this? Is this the way we should be going?

Hi Gnomon. Yes, we know about it, and no, we can't go this way, which is why we went the way we did. Yes, it is the way we should be going. Sadly the BBC decided that h2g2 wasn't a priority so that experiment (and there are one or two others with video I think) dwindled away.

Hosting video content offsite is a sorry state of affairs when the BBC is quite capable of hosting it themselves!

Just to add to that, TRiG and I have come up with a site which we use for hosting our clips now:

It's still not as great as having our clips onsite, but it's much better than using YouTube.

er, just reading that back it looks very harsh! I meant that the BBC is a sorry lot - the aviators are doing a fabulous job, despite the beeb!
