More on Gosport

Gosport does hold a wealth of attractions. Gosport market, sadly, is no longer one of them. Along with the high street it has suffered a massive decline in recent years, in my opinion this may be due the the introduction of Gunwharf Queys putlet shopping complex, which is all but a 5 minute ferry ride from the town centre. The Gosport Ferry leaves from the ferry gardens which begin at the top of Gosport high street. Gosport Musium no longer sits majestically in the centre of the high street, but has been amalgamated into the Gosport Discovery cenre, which has taken over the library. One of Gosports main attractions may well be the submarine musium, which gives a stern nod to Gosport's past as a centre of Naval excellence, and is well worth a visit. Gosport is quiet, with very little nightlife, and beyond the leisure centre and ice rink, there is little for young people to do. One of the main attractions of Gosport used to be the fact that one could park here for free and then glide across to Portsmouth in little under 7 minutes. In the last year, however, blanket parking charges have been introduced to the whole of the town centre, which has the intended purpose of stopping this happening but has had a knock on effect of killing what little business survived in the town centre.
