A Dragon For Ty Hafan
Created | Updated Nov 7, 2006
Ty Hafan is a childrens hospice in Glamorgan South Wales, located in Sully, a few miles from the Welsh capital of Cardiff. It's patron is His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales. As it has no predictable statutory government funding it relies amost entirly on chaitable donations and funds raised through various projects. One of the latest projects is 'A Dragon for Ty Hafan.' Supporters are asked to knit, crochet or embroider 10 inch squares with the Welsh dragon emblem. They have to donate £1.00 with each square, which they can raise by being sponsered. Eventually ,the plan is to lay out all the completed squares in a giant mosaic of the Welsh flag, which will cover the Millenium Stadium rugby ground. Afterwards the squares will be made into blankets. In 2004 knitters created a 'Scarf for a Laugh'.They created lengths of knitting which were joined together to make a scarf 33.74 miles long. which earned an entry in the Guiness Book of World Records and more importantly the publicity earned more donations for Ty Hafan. |
