Communism is an idea that rather than have a ruler or a government, or any sort of social ranking everyone should be treated exactly the same within an area.
This means whatever job you do you are paid exactly the same as the next man. etc etc. However this idea is slightly flawed as you can never have a fully communist society, there is always a leading figure needed to keep order and do very important leady things.
In America in the 50s there was a big communism scare as people subscribed to the 'domino theory'. A silly man named Senator McCarthy acused lots of Americans of being communists, including the then president, Eisenhower... Eventally, after many wrong acusations, McCarthy was discredited and the world finally became a better place.
