Tumsup for Pope!
I'd vote for you, but first I have to become a Cardinal and wear a crimson frock...

How long does it take for email from the mods take. I have an unfortunately sensitive spam filter and I don't always get my emails.

A follow-up to the Brazilian incestuous rape story:
' A Roman Catholic archbishop says the abortion of twins carried by a 9-year-old girl who allegedly was raped by her stepfather means excommunication for the girl's mother and her doctors.'
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,505183,00.html
Well, at least there's a bit of a silver lining to this story -- freedom for the mother and the doctors.

I know what you mean. I tried one on and it made my butt look huge. As pope, I'd have to wear white. Hmmm... maybe Madonna has some castoffs.

>>excommunication for the girl's mother and her doctors<<
Excommunication from the archbishop? I suppose he means the same as what happened to England's Henry VIII
Excommunication from Rome and the Vatican. It's one of those political things ..

This sad story hasn't ended. Not only has an innocent child been raped but she now will live in a society that will tell her that she is a double murderer. Excommunication means that the Church has effectively condemned her to an eternity in Hell.

>>Excommunication means that the Church has effectively condemned her to an eternity in Hell.<<
No "church" can do that! I understand that you mean her life on this earth will be very difficult, due to social stigma and so on.
I know all about that, ever since I changed my name to Muhammad!

Of course there is no hell so that's what I meant. The little girl has to grow up in a Catholic country. In Catholicism the age where one can know sin is seven, this girl was six when the assaults began so she had a grace periond of a year before she officially became a slut in the pope's eyes. And now a murderer.
It must be true, the pope is infallible.
It could have been worse I suppose, there are places in this world where this innocent girl, I mean slut, could have begun her eternity in Hell by being buried to her neck in the sand and stoned to death.

Hi Tumsup,
According to abrahamic scripture the actions that should be taken against this girl are clear:
Deuteronomy 22:23-24
If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city.
I checked out the verse for 'unbetrothed' girls, but the punishment there is to be married off to the man who did it, who then pays a small fine to the father. As they are one and the same... well methinks the other punishment would be enacted.
It should bepointed out that many christian churches in the Third World, such as those in Nigeria, are campaigning for a full return to abrahamic/mosaic law. This is so they can compete with the neighbouring muslims who live under Sharia.
I can't find a direct instruction in the Qu'ran regarding rape, but I cna on incest:
4:23 Forbidden unto you are your mothers, and your daughters, and your sisters, and your father's sisters, and your mother's sisters, and your brother's daughters and your sister's daughters, and your foster-mothers, and your foster-sisters, and your mothers-in-law, and your step-daughters who are under your protection (born) of your women unto whom ye have gone in - but if ye have not gone in unto them, then it is no sin for you (to marry their daughters) - and the wives of your sons who (spring) from your own loins.
Apparently it is no sin to have sex with your step-daughter and you can subsequently add them to your harem...? It is a complicated passage and I'm not sure I'm reading that right.
Perhaps Warner can find the relevant passages on rape? I'm sure there was a Nigerian woman who was stoned for adultery recently because she was raped but couldn't find four male witnesses to speak on her behalf.
Lovely world innit.

ah, this is where it was posted!
The child involved is not to be excommunicated - she's too young apparently.

Do posts on the 'The Moral Majority Strikes Again' thread get yikesd more often than those on other threads or has my irony meter gone spoing once too often?

There always seems to be lots of yikesing going on when I quote scripture to show Christians what a load of bull they are spouting .
My academic generosity seems to spark off a certain type of response...

Math, I deeply appreciate your academic generosity and that of others. It saves me so much work.
I compose from memory which, especially from me , is very unreliable. Not to worry, someone will either correct me or support me with the relevant texts. Either way I win.

Yes, mine was hidden. Can't remember exactly what I put but it was criticising the church regarding abortions etc.
I won;t be re-writing it. The yiksing says more really.
Oh and something about warners 'social stigma' after changing his name to Mo' not being in the least worse than a girl being raped by her stepfather, made pregnant, having an abortion and then some bloke in a dress excommunicating her.

Hi ...
It is a badge of honour to many of us to be yikesed by the small minded - welcome to our exclusive brethren
Matholwch .
To our detractors:
When you feel offended consider why you feel offended, rather than striking at the offender. That you are offended often says a lot more about you that those who offended you.
At the end of the day you are either bigger than those who offended you and can rise above it whilst appreciating the wonderful right of free speech we all enjoy.
Or you are less than those that offended you. In this state then you can wallow in your own self-pity and sense of persecution. May this give you some comfort.
Sinceely,
The Bigger Man.

Did we all see the latest thing about the Pope, Condoms, Condemnation, Africa, and AIDS?
Next he'll be saying AIDS is caused by darkies making flippy floppy with monkeys.

At the most basic level, the only ones who take that pompous former Nazi-youth cross-dresser seriously are the seriously deluded.
For example: http://lonesomemongoose.wordpress.com/2009/03/16/thousands-of-the-faithful-flock-to-island-church-to-see-the-face-of-jesus-in-a-seat-cushion/
Can you imagine the response such a poisonous nutbar would get if he did not have the powerful church heirarchy, the wealth and influence, and sheer numbers of ignorant 'faithful' behind him?
What kind of credibility would he have, as just an individual in a silly outfit, wearing a silly hat, and carrying a disgusting 'magic' staff depicting hideous torture?
I should think he'd be locked in a padded cell
