Is this the beginning of peoplepower /politcalsanity in the US? Is California forging the path as always?

58% vote for a handgun ban outside the cops and those who need it for their jobs and this gets overturned by the courts as the city doesn;t have the power to do this?
Not sure how this is a start of people power/sanity thing?
Although the judge's reported ruling and reasons seems to show how shakey the foundations of the pro gun lobby are.
"proposition H" so near, so near...

Hi Ictoan,
The way I see it, the people who set up the vote in the first place would have known it 1. would be challenged and 2. would be overturned but they went ahead and did it anyway. That's pretty impressive to me and indicates a strong organised movement. I hope they keep it up. If they can get 58% is San Francisco, mayhap they can get 35% statewide. A third of the population that strongly motivated as to go against what is essentially a norm can, imho, be trusted to open the eyes of at least another third.
So, I say, go CA!

San Francisco urban versus sub-urban majority California perhaps? Although it would probably depend on where the borders are set.
I can certainly imagine not wanting guns in a city. What are you going to do with them? Hunt pigeons?

Hi Wilma. I see where you're coming from. But the article you link to seems to imply that this is in fact the second, watered down attempt at getting such legislation in? The first being way back in 82? They failed then and are now trying with a lesser version. And perhaps then another lesser version until finally they get to ban peashooters in school playgrounds?
Oh I'm probably just being cynical. Ignore me.
