To overturn a presidential veto requires the approval of 2/3rds of both houses, not just 2/3rds of the Senate.
However, only 2/3rds of the Sentate (The House isn't involved) is needed to apporve a treaty or presidential appointment.
A bit of US history trivia: President Andrew Johnson (#17) had a higher percentage of his vetos overturned any other president. He was also the first president impeached.
This was becasue he tried to implement Lincoln's moderate reconstruction plan in the South while Congress was filled with radical republicans who wanted to bassicly destroy the South to punish it for the Civil War.
