I picked this book up at the library because it looked like an intriguing read.
It involves 3 main characters, Richard and Leila , seemimgly very much in love , and Sylvie , an insignificant character who is at a party to which Richard and Leila go.
As the story unfolds, Sylvie begins to pervade the lives of both characters. Leila discovers she is pregnant, Richard's feelings towards the baby are ambivalent to say the least.
The development of the relationship between Richard and Sylvie comes as no surprise, it is written about on the "blurb" on the back cover.
However there are many twists and turns which make for an engrossing story.
The characters are very well-drawn but the language too "flowery" for me at times.
The build-up of tension towards the end of the book led me to expect a dramatic ending but it was a bit of an anti-climax despite a neat twist in the story at the very end.
It wasn't an uplifting read at all and was creepy and a bit sordid in parts however one I would recommend.
