I picked this book up at the library because it looked like an intriguing read.
It involves 3 main characters, Richard and Leila , seemimgly very much in love , and Sylvie , an insignificant character who is at a party to which Richard and Leila go.
As the story unfolds, Sylvie begins to pervade the lives of both characters. Leila discovers she is pregnant, Richard's feelings towards the baby are ambivalent to say the least.
The development of the relationship between Richard and Sylvie comes as no surprise, it is written about on the "blurb" on the back cover.
However there are many twists and turns which make for an engrossing story.
The characters are very well-drawn but the language too "flowery" for me at times.
The build-up of tension towards the end of the book led me to expect a dramatic ending but it was a bit of an anti-climax despite a neat twist in the story at the very end.
It wasn't an uplifting read at all and was creepy and a bit sordid in parts however one I would recommend.

*enjoy*..It was depressing, altho the dialogue and casting was good. I enjoyed it but it wasn;t enjoyable if that makes sense! There were very few if any light moments , only one towards the end. It was pretty erotic in parts as well and without giving the story away, some of the eroticism came from an unexpected quarter..well perhaps others might have picked up on the way the plot was going to unfold but I didn't ! I'm not v good with reading that sort of stuff hence the not enjoyable aspect.
I've posted Intern to ask him how I move it to teh book club page cos altho I posted it on the page I don't know if it appeared there. Did it?

oh if it is erotic i wont be reading it then ( i am a prude you know ) if i wanted sex i would go and do it if you know what i mean ! also depressing i can do that meself as well but i will bear it in mind !
no intern will have to move it and then add it to the front review page and as he has done a lately (or got a life ) it may be a while

Its not raunchy erotic as I don't do that kind of stuff (read that kind of stuff....oops am I digging a hole for myself here!). It is tastefully written as it didn't make me blush!
Worth a read tho I think.

I would wander down to ours on a Saturday afternoon and take out the same book over and over again. It was about a bear called Horace and if I remember correctly he ate up all teh members of a family except for Little Lulu. I must ask my mum what it was called.
I was a big Noggin the Nog fan as well!

Ours is still there..it had black and white tiles on the floor and me and my friend Paul used to play trains up and down the tiles.
It had a special kids bit in another room thru some lovely big wooden doors and those special low boxes full of books..just a magical place.
This has got me all fired up..I'm going to the library NOW!
I'll catch you later!
