We are a much better society for it altho the other extreme are shows like Trisha where there is too much opening your heart in public just for effect I think!smiley - biggrin

Yep, agreed - talk about it by all means - but broadcasting it on TV is unecessary and feeds voyuerism...

Sorry I disappeared ..the computer was playing silly b*****s!
People must get their kicks from appearing on those shows, can't seee it myself!
Going back to our earler chat, I must reread, if only skim read Mocking Bird.
I know what you mean about it being a satisfying read, a very rounded book.
OOps no more of this, otherwise Adrian will nick all our best lines for his review!smiley - laugh

and to add to what you were saying above - i was born with a cleft palate and was in hospital for over a year from birth - my mother and father were not allowed to visit because it " might be too distressing for me " how cruel is that ?? i dont think i was affected by it but i imagine my mother found it very hard smiley - wah

strange ideas the medical profession have!! I think that The Memory Keepers Daughter is similar. A 60s view of what was best for a child with Down's Syndrome. Cruel and heartless as far as we are concerned, but a very different view at the time I think.

oh yeah i think so and although it seems bizarre now i can see the thinking behind it although today you would be able to stay in hospital with the child and of course you wouldnt be in hospital that long - i had the first operation to correct a cleft palate ever done on a child of my age so i guess there was a lot of work behind the scenes - also children with that affliction are very prone to pneumonia as if not done right the food / liquid goes down the wrong hole and onto their lungs another reason for keeping me in for so long - however as you know there is no sign that i was born like that and i havent ever had any kind of problems linked to it so i aint complaining smiley - smiley
