AIM: TO PREVENT THE NEEDLESS SLAUGHTER OF THE ALBATROSS

Leaving Ardmore

John Ridgway and his wife Marie Christine along with Nick Grainger and Scott Simpson set sail from Ardmore, in the North West of Scotland, on 27 July 2003. In front of them a year long 'adventure with a purpose' in the Ridgway's 17-metre (57 feet) ketch English Rose VI to confront the pirate fishing fleets whose methods kill thousands of seabirds annually.

Their daughter Rebecca and her husband Will, who run the Cape Adventure school in Ardmore, saw them off with the Ridgway's grandchildren and a few friends.
