A Galactic Master plan has been set in motion by Phillips, the Daleks have conquered Gallifrey massacring the population and with no hope left Earth is left vulnerable to Phillips' vengeful wrath.
A unique setpiece for a story that would feature in a prominent fashion the Daleks. The aftermath of their invasion proved to be an original place to start.
BURNING CAGE
The Daleks had succeeded with their invasion and now their true agenda, their true motives that had remained silent during the Interludes comes into play.
Such a story that mirrors Time of the Daleks but this time something is wrong with Time, most likely the effects from Phillips' meddling but alas no.
I wanted to use that as a means to create a mask for the action as the creatures personified as a Red Dalek. Developing a caste system in the films and Peel's books I made a unique character although a Dalek it was a scientist that would play a key role in the proceedings.
Time travel and their technology would feature as well by upgrading their 'Dardis' with something that could never truly be realised on TV. A catastrophe develops, something with the power to seriously affect the reader with a shock. Something all too powerful as a consequence develops, something that will turn the story around.
The Doctor finally appears, within his eighth incarnation. No longer does his presence feel central to the plot but as he finds a chance to enjoy his new life disaster sends him a message in the form of the Chancellery Commander Valen's exterminated form.
As he tries to return to Gallifrey he is forced down onto a barren world, something very much I had with an Iron-age environment like a British 'Mad Max' world where religious acts govern those.
Arnol Havlok and his sick daughter Roska, both religios figures but the Doctor too them brings suspicion particularly when Roska is given a piece of alien technology.
I was considering a ghost story as I moved into possession about creating an adversary so powerful that it would eventually dominate the Daleks and Phillips. I was creating dark, evil powerful imagery something along the lines a hellish effigy.
When the Daleks finally emerge being only two it creates a Death moment where they are forced to co-operate with the Doctor but I was inspired by Sadako from the films- The Ring as this hellish form that grows darker becoming something I had created for my abandoned series- The Village.
The Shadow Index makes its presence and it creates the ultimate imagery to chill even the Doctor, who for once hasn't a plan on him but the story returns from a powerful anti-climax to a question- can the sole survivors hope to stop the Index?
A red Dalek and the Doctor, the only two who are forced to co-operate but is the Dalek really trustworthy? Through long experience I believe everyone is certain of that.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
