-an acronym for the phrase, "Bones and Raw Food" or "Biologically Appropriate Raw Food".
This acronym was created in the 1990's by Debbie Struff of Saskatchewan, Canada in reference to the raw food diet that she fed to her Bernese Mountain Dogs. Since that time, the use of the acronym has spread to almost every country in the world, and indeed, possibly throughout the entire galaxy.
People who feed their pet a "B.A.R.F." diet believe that by eliminating the preservatives and chemicals that are frequently found in commercial pet food, they are aiding in the preservation of their pet's health and well being.
