History
The history of Cyprus streches back to 8500 BC where the first pre Neolithic settlements were encountered. It was taken over by many empires due to its strategic position for trade. It was under the hands of empire builders such as Egyptians, Assyrians, Phoenicians etc.
To cut a long story short, Cyprus fell into the hands of the Ottoman Empire in 1571 before becoming a British colony in 1925.
