Twenty five years after the Whitbread, I can still conjure up at any moment the feel of English Rose VI rising to the Southern Ocean combers and surging down the face of those monstrous seas under a full press of sail. That feeling, throughout my entire being, is my favourite legacy of our circumnavigation. That and the sight of the Wandering Albatross, our constant companion in the Southern Ocean.
The great memories make it very easy to visualize myself aboard. I will be there in spirit for the entire adventure and will be doing my best ashore to help raise awareness about the plight of the albatross, by engaging the interest of young people in the campaign.
Fair winds and friendly seas to all who venture forth aboard English Rose VI to Sail for the Albatross!
