Blackadder Series 4, episode 2: Corporal Punishment

The Plot:

Reluctant to march to his certain death, Blackadder has taken to ignoring orders. He even shoots a carrier pigeon when it arrives with orders to advance, and he eats the evidence. Unluckily, this particular pigeon is the property of General Melchett, “My own true love, who’s been with me since I was a nipper.” Blackadder is court-martialled, tried by the less-than fair Melchett, and sentenced to death by firing squad. He is saved at the last moment by a telegram from George’s Mad Uncle Rupert, who has conveniently been made Minister of War.

Tally ho, pip pip!

George on waiting for orders: “When are we going to give Fritz a taste of our British spunk?”

George on being a lawyer: “I’m a complete duffer at this sort of thing. In the School Debating Society I was voted ‘boy least likely to complete a coherent...’ erm....

Insult of the week:

Blackadder: “Morning George, morning Baldrick. Still the striking resemblance to guppy fish at feeding time.”

War’s a horrid thing. Ding a ling a ling:

Blackadder’s court martial is less than fair, since Melchett is the judge and Darling the prosecution. The judge opens by saying, “The case before us is that of the Crown versus Captain Edmund Blackadder, alias the Flanders Pigeon Murderer. Oh, and hand me the black cap, will you - I’ll be needing that. “

Quotes:

George: Well tally ho! With a bing and a bong and a buzz buzz buzz!

George: I’m thick. I’m as thick as the big print version of the Complete Works of Charles Dickens.

George: My head... oh, my head... feels like the time I was initiated into the Silly Buggers Society at Cambridge. I misheard the rules and tried to push a whole aubergine up my earhole.
