Duel and Duality
Created | Updated Apr 17, 2003
The Plot:
The Duke of Wellington (also known as “throat slasher”) challenges the Prince to a duel after the latter made sexual advances to the Duke’s nieces. Blackadder agrees to fight the Duke in the Prince’s place, in exchange for the Prince’s entire fortune, an amusing clock and a stack of French porn. Obviously, Blackadder does his best to cheat. The Duke fires a cannonball straight at Blackadder’s chest, and his life is only spared by the metal cigarillo case that got in the way. The Duke declares that his honour is satisfied, and promptly murders the real Prince for his insolence. Blackadder makes the momentous decision to take on the Prince’s identity for a bit longer...
We hail Prince George:
George thinks that changing places with Blackadder would be a bit like “that story - ‘The Prince and the Porpoise’”.
Insult of the week:
Blackadder: He’s mad! He’s Mad. He’s madder than Mad Jack McMad, the winner of this year’s Mr Madman competition.
1766 and all that:
It was Blackadder's suggestion that Nelson confront Napoleon’s navy at Trafalgar. Until then, Nelson was stationed in Alaska.
Quotes:
Blackadder: We’re about as similar as two completely dissimilar things in a pod.
George: I’m doomed! Doomed as the dodo!
Blackadder: Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?
Blackadder: Oh, God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.
Blackadder: A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening ear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I’d mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn.
