The Imperial System of Measure

0 Conversations

For some reason, the Americans and the Burmese1 have a deviant system of measure from the admittedly superior metric system. The Burmese and Americans use the British Imperial System of measure. This discrepency of units caused The Mars Climate Orbiter to burn up due in part to some calculating critical flight information in metric units and other in imperial.

While the metric system uses litres, metres and grams as the most basic of the units, the Imperial system uses no pattern for it's units. The basics for capacity, length and weight are gallons, feet and pounds respectively.

Celsius and Farenheit are another of America's differing measurements. The method to get from Celsius to Farenheit is this equation (C*1.8)+32=F. To get from Farenheit to Celsius, (F/1.8)-32.
