Created | Updated Mar 20, 2006
Milla Jovovich was born Milica Natasha Jovovic on December 17th, 1975, in Kiev, Ukraine (then USSR). She was born to a Serbian doctor and a Russian actress.
She and her family moved and settled in Los Angeles, after moving to London and then Sacremento, California (for 7 months).
Career
When she was 11, Milla was spotted by photographer Richard Avedon, who featured her in Revlons "Most Unforgettable Women in the World" advertisements. In 1987, she was on the cover of the Italian fashion magazine, Lei, the first of many cover shoots to come. She continued to model in the following year, and appeared in her first movie, Two Moon Junction, a romance thriller.
In Return to the Blue Lagoon, 1991, Millas appearance compared her and another child model-turned-actress, Brooke Shields (who appeared in the original Blue Lagoon). Millas early appearances were in supporting or cameo roles.
In 1994, she released her critically acclaimed first album, The Divine Comedy, which featured many original songs and was compared to Tori Amos and Kate Bush. After fronting a band called Plastic Has Memory, she began to concentrate more on her acting than her musical career. Her vocals appeared on the 2004 album, Legion of Boom, by The Crystal Method. Milla also recorded the single, Rocket Collecting, the soundtrack featured on Underworld.
During the 90s up to the present, she was entering the world of action heroes, with roles in The Fifth Element (clothing and outfits designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier, fashion designer), Ultraviolet and the films based on the computer game series Resident Evil.
Milla and model Carmen Hawk launched a clothing line called Carmen-Hawk. The showroom was opened in New Yorks Greenwich Village on September 15th, 2005. The clothing line can be found in Los Angeles.
Milla can be seen on L'Oreal adverts, as she is an international spokesmodel for the cosmetics firm.

In 1992, Milla married Shawn Andrews, while filming Dazed and Confused, but was annulled a month later, by her mother. 5 years later, she married Luc Besson, director of The Fifth Element, they divorced two years later.
