Former United States Senator and Vice President Dan Quayle is widely known to be intellectually disadvantaged. Yet, he has, as stated before, managed to become both a Senator from the generally intelligent State of Indiana, and even more unlikely, managed to be elected Vice President.
This was widely regarded as a bad move by the US populace, a generally well meaning bunch of folks, who none the less occasionally get it badly wrong.
