Activating a numerical keypad


Unfortunately, as with most computery things, there's no one simple method for all machines. However, the good news is that its not rocket science!


Windows Desktop keyboards


There is usually a

NumLock

key somewhere in the top right hand corner of a 'regular' keyboard, often with a small light that glows if/when the NumLock is 'on'.

Windows Laptops/Notebooks


Models vary, but activating a numerical keypad on a Windows Laptop/Notebook typically involves hitting a 'function' or 'Fn' type key (maybe down by the left-hand-side
Ctrl
and
Alt
keys) and a 'NumLock' key (often at the right-hand-end of the top-row, the F-keys) simultaneously


This turns 'letter' keys into 'number' key. For example:


  • M = 0, J= 1, K = 2, L = 3, U = 4, I = 5, O = 6


Whichever way its turned 'on' should also turn it 'off' (this is known as 'toggling').
