Found usually in large cities. Almost always filled wall-to-wall with pretentious people with shoes that cost more than their weight in platinum.
The most well-known of these is Starbucks. Originated in Seattle, they are famous for serving burnt, overly-strong coffee that tastes like it has been sitting in a dead cat for a month or two. This coffee is known to take the paint off of a 1978 Dodge Dart after two minutes.
There are also "beatnik" coffee houses, containing lots of people in berees that try to write poetry. Started in the late sixties, some people never left.
You can find any number of drinks in a coffee house, though rarely can you find alcoholic beverages. Often they serve highly overpriced espresso-related drinks.
