A Conversation for Wonderful Rivers

The Glen River

It may not be long but the Glen River is impressive. It flows down the slopes of Sleive Donard above Newcastle, Co. Down, Northern Ireland and has a relatively short live before it reaches the sea below. However on the most popular route up Northern Ireland's highest mountain it is an almost constant companion. From wide but rapid shaded sections on the lowers slopes to the trickle over stones amongst the slopes close to the Mourne wall in the final col above the treeline.

On a hot day it can be a godsend to dip an cloth or hand into the flow to wet a sweaty brow on the ascent or descent of the mountain. Or a guide back to the car park at the edge of the town.
