Belt-Mounted Pouch

A diagram

Recipe for belt-mounted phone pouch.

Ingredients:

  • Fabric
  • Sewing machine
  • Phone
  • Sturdy pair of scissors
  • Some pins.

I prefer to use jeans fabric, usually the lower bit of a trouser leg of an abandoned pair of jeans.

  1. Cut out a rectangular piece (From now on called "Romeo") that is clearly bigger than the height and twice the width of your phone. (excess material will be cut away later).
  2. For stiffness and looks it helps if you have an existing seam (from the jeans) in the middle, and the bottom edge of the trouser leg at the top where the opening will be.
  3. With a plain piece of fabric, you need to fold the top edge and sew it in place)
  4. Fold the Romeo around your phone (intended inside out, top of the phone aligned with top edge of fabric) and trace around the open side and bottom with a ballpoint pen.
  5. Take another rectangle (We will now call her "Juliet") of fabric (5x8-ish cm).
  6. Fold the long edges in 0.5-1 cm and sew in place for strength.
  7. Open Romeo (outside up) and put Juliet on top (inside up) Most of Juliet protruding from the top, so that you can sew the now lower edge of Juliet to Romeo, just below the upper edge of Romeo. (Horizontal positioning: Centre of Juliet half a phones width from the middle).

It is best if you make that seam multiple times, as it will prevent the loss of your phone.
  8. Fold Juliet down and sew along the lower edge to Romeo. You now have a loop
  9. Fold the assembly again (inside of Romeo outside), an sew along the outside of the earlier ballpoint line. Check how snug the fit of your phone is (if it is too tight already, remove seams and sew a little wider. It will get slightly tighter once finished). If you are satisfied with the fit, trim excess fabric.
  10. Turn inside in. You may need the back of your ballpoint pen to help expand the corners.

Put belt through loop.

Put phone in pouch.

Tadaaa!

Warning:

Phone pouches could be dangerous in countries where small firearms are allowed, since people might think you draw something else than your phone. (Just saying)

Come to think of it, with different dimensions for Romeo, you could also use it for other stuff, like a banana holder or something like that.
