Freebie Film Tip #17: The World's Smallest Secret Agent
Never mind aliens. In the early 1950s, everybody and his kid sister knew that atomic energy could do anything. Create giant insects, killer vegetables, and mutant whatsits. Also, experimental formulas were Bad News. Unfortunately, Mel Hunter, the hero of World of Giants, has run afoul of an 'experimental rocket fuel'. Exposure to this substance has rendered Mel only six inches high. He lives in a dollhouse, plays his drums – he's sort of a Cool Cat, in the Beatnik mode – and rides around in his buddy's attaché case.
There aren't many episodes of this wonder available. But that show impressed me mightily as a preschooler. I sort of wished I had such a tiny friend. In this episode, Mel and his piano-playing buddy put an end to nefarious antiquities smuggling. The piano bit is good. Never in the history of jazz has an arpeggio been so dangerous. Enjoy.
