Freebie Film Tip #14: Ponderous, Meaningful...Russian
Did you see the George Clooney version of Solaris? I haven't, yet, but I'll bet it's different from this one, the original Russian version, called Solyaris.
I first saw this film when it came out, in Russian, with German subtitles. It's impressive. But then, Stanislaw Lem is always worth the trouble.
Unfortunately, there are no subtitles. But you can turn on your Universal Translators, right? (Ask Hoshi for tech support.) Or just bask in the imagery.
Stanislaw Lem liked PK Dick's work, and wrote an excellent essay about him. Apparently, Dick thought Lem was a corporate myth invented by Communists, and wrote the FBI complaining about him. This I find very funny.
PS: This Youtube version comes with English subtitles. In case you don't govaritz pa-russkie, or Hoshi is busy.
