Pubs in North Central Texas

Yes I'm a Yank. Well, to a Brit I'm a Yank. To a Yankee I'm a Southerner. It all depends on where you happen to be at the time. I live in Dallas Texas, so popping down to the pub and buying a round for my blokes is rather difficult. We don't have blokes here. We have dudes. And they don't know of any UK banks either. We have pubs though. Well, actually we have bars that call themselves pubs. There's a nice Irish pub in Arlington called J. Gilligans. It's off Abram Street. I recommend it for anyone from the British Isles who happens to find themselves in the D/FW area. To US it's an authentic irish pub. To a true Irishman from Ireland it's probably a good laugh. Great music though. Good booze. Nice scenery, if you don't mind girls who have a thick accent. "HI yall doin'?"
There's some other good pubs in D/FW too. Not all of them have a british isles motif, but if you're from the British Isles and you're visiting Texas, no doubt you came here to get away from the British Isles and experience something new. Deep Ellum's The Angry Dog in downtown Dallas is a good place to start. They have a pool room, a stage with great music on the weekends and some weekdays, frozen Cape Cods, women. They need to hire a new webmaster though. Their website bites.
Other great places to go in Deep Ellum include Club Dada, the Coppertank Brewing Company, Blue Cat Blues, and The Bone. There's other places in Dallas to lubricate your cranium but they don't all have websites. Most of them don't suck. However, odds are if you're from out of the country and you come to Texas, what you're looking for are cowboys. I hate to disappoint you, but most of the cowboys that you may have heard of are very dead. I don't think true cowboys exist anymore. You certaintly won't find any in Dallas. There's a buncha wanna-be cowboys though and the best place to find them is at Billy Bob's Texas, located near the Fort Worth Stockyards. You can get drunk there also, and if you're really lucky, maybe you can start a good old-fashioned brawl and have most of your teeth kicked out. I recommend learning how to fake a Texas accent, just in case.
