It's a day to make people think. Consumerism is a phenomenon that takes shop workers away from their families and friends today,(it's Boxing Day in the UK) as they have to return to work to enable shops and stores to re-open.

And, whilst sitting at home not buying anything, you can also not bother reading (or commenting on) H2G2 articles that don't exactly turn you on.
