She Was So Cold

I thought I could warm her touch

But it followed

She was too concerned with looks

I gave my all

I reached out but she was ice

I nearly fell

But all she believed was her eyes

Who would know?

That she wouldn't be the one

I thought I knew

I thought she was so much fun

So where's the one?

The one that I see every night

She's just no-one

There's no-one here to share tonight

Just to hold her

Not just an intangible sprite

Make her real

Make her come to me tonight

Nire - Wanting The Intangiable

RCIA Agents

Rachael Hiyatona: A native colonial who was hired by the RCIA just as she was concidering an offer by the Yakuza. Highly useful as an undercover agent due to her native tongue and believable acting skills. Hooked on coffee, which now grows on Jhenge thanks to her meddling with Tekpharm import records. She was the investigator in charge of extracting and interpreting Vecchi's diary implant - see below.

'Smitty': Headhunted from the Secret Service on Earth to assist Hiyatona's investigation of Vecchi's diary.

'Tarbion': Hiyatona's occasional RCIA partner. She (or he) is a 'fast and deep' undercover agent and undergoes complete physical alteration after each mission. Has a list of aliases as long as a long thing.

Christine Kowalski: Part of the RCIA's foreign intelligence excursion during the border island war. In addition to training geurillas (to fight against the invading colonials) she was the groups medic - a position she took to heart often applying medical attention where non was needed.

'Ice' Jackson:

Alice Miller: A Red Scorpion defector assigned to the RCIA foreign intelligence unit. Kept in check with a small bomb implanted in her skull. Always wears sunglasses.

Anagoics

M. Rix: The investigative wing of the anagoic agency was headed by M. Rix who's megalomaniac streak allowed him to rise through the ranks to become Commander Lance's right hand man. Of the group, he was the only member to be privy to athropophagi existence.

Bernie Harp: Rix's weapons expert was Bernie Harp. The anagoic process unfortunately made him clumsy. He had high scan-rate eyes allowing him to shoot fast moving objects with accuracy; with the downside of occasional migranes. He had an extra heart, thus making him a little harder to kill. He had a habit of chatting to captured enemies, explaining it was nothing personal and just his job. Often this easy going nature made the captive think Bernie might join up with them but he was not so easily swayed to the other side.

Kelon Doon: Another agent under Rix's command. Trained as a 'grey ops' agent. Implants inculde a heart bio-booster, internal air supply, enhanced vision and adhesive pads. His quirks are listed as 'doesn't care about wounds' and 'likes explosions', which sums his character up.

Annabella: Stealth and sniping expert attatched to Rix's anagoic unit. Addicted to her biomods and always trying to project a pleasant manner but somehow not quite carrying it off. Equiped with stealth-speakers ('Audio dampeners'), subdermal armour and IR/telescopic vision. Has undergone bone structure balancing and restoration.

Stacey Hardcock1: This is, believe it or not, a man. A man with a problem... well actually many deep-seated and annoying problems. Unhinged aggression, a serious daredevil streak, a phobia of spoons ( embarassing if you are invited to a banquet, for example). Mods inculde a inbuilt EMP wave generator. Stacey believes he was brought up in a place called Bristol and is willing to talk at great lengths about the city its people and his childhood. He has an ear necklace which needs topping up every once in a while. Being an aggresive daredevil is good in a fight - not having decent armour isn't. Stacey spent most of his time starting fights and then getting shot/blown up in the first round of combat.

'The Unlabelled Man': aka Vecchi, Harvey Desirae. The first corporate anagoic prototype and the oldest - age is uncertain but his memories of pre-collapse Earth put him at least 300 years old. Sometime after his conversion he implanted a 'parser diary' to keep track of events, which interfered with both his anagoic implants and his marasmusine abuse. As a result he became schizophrenic and paranoid. He was finally killed by Racheal Hiyatona. When she played back the decoded diary she discovered that there was about two hundred years worth of entries covering his time on Jhenge, despite only arriving on Jhenge three years ago. This is still under investigation.

Civilians

Nire: A singer, composer and player of bad loud electronic music. He and his friends were hands-for-hire. Distinguished by his shocking pink fluffy mohican. Had a massive ego until Miss Wheeler crushed him.

I Am Nire

I am the best there is

I am the only one

I am Nire

I'm entertainment at it's best

You might think that you can beat me

But you can't top what you see

I am Nire, you can't be

As great as me

I got a woman who loves me

She got me where I am today

You know you can't beat me

I am the one, I'm here to stay

You can't beat entertainment at it's best

With me around you just don't need the rest

You can't stop me, I'll put you to the test

You can't beat me at my best

I'm Nire

Nire - I Am Nire

Ash Jegellen: Part of Nire's retinue - worked in the colonial canteens between adventures. Sports an eyepatch; the result of a drunken fall and an upturned bar table leg.

Prellen Vinwood: A friend of Nire and Ash, worked in on-vessel administration (typically on sea-faring brigantines.) An introverted chap, was often accused of being paranoid until they discovered that they were on Cheung's hitlist.

Lun: A typical teenage girl with 'issues'. Hangs out with Rachael. Failed a relationship with Vinnie, then hooked up with Burchack when he arrived on Jhenge with Vecchi. This didn't work out either and ended with Burchack beating the hell out of her. She was later killed after getting mixed up with one of Rachaels missions.

Vinnie: A pleb, friend of Burchack. For a bet he stopped wearing his filter mask for a week. Ended up in the bacterial detox clinic, and then various psychiatric wards with 'wierd dreams'.

Burchack: Came to Jhenge with Vecchi and Amarilla. A pleb.

Pete Ripley: Vecchi's co-worker back on Earth. Spouted a lot of low-brow philosophical nonsense and likes guns and football. Vecchi often commented 'Pete is incredibly stupid and will soon die.'

Costello: Half-ring islander (giving her a pale complexion with dark red freckles) and explosives enthusiast. I would say explosives expert but her all-year-round heyfever causes some problems. A member of Red Scorpion.

Blacky:Although not a denizen of Jhenge, she is referred to in Vecchi's diary implant. Vecchi confided in her - including details of his anagoic process. No records of her exist - it's possible that she was a corporate agent or just fictional.

He put her head on my shoulder, scratchy hair tickling my cheek. She has this spiky black crop of dirty hair, but immaculately clean hands. Her lips moved with uncertainty for a few seconds until she furrowed her brown and her mind connected.

'I'll kill you too.' she said.

From Vecchi's diary - extracted by agent Hiyatona.

Anthropaphagi

Sandy One: Appears as a young woman with punkish appearance (one of Nire's groupies) - Rix's agents investigated her after her connection with Dr. Malley's illegal research. Sandy only ever purchased baby food.

Corporates

Catherine Wheeler: It's unsure whether her motive is greed or sadism. Suckers people in and then destroys them, usually for a profit. Major shareholder in several corporations including Nylell-Darmen. Executive managing position in Wheeler Inc. Controls her fathers affairs whilst he is ill. He's been ill for a suspicious length of time. Seduced Nire into a romantic relationship then tore him down.

You thought at the heart of it all

There is a warm place

But now you know it's not so

I got what I want now you fool

In all the time we were together

You didn't suspect

I used you, now you've nothing left

It's over my hero

you've lost it all

It's over my hero

I've made you fall

When I was under my hero

It didn't mean anything at all

It's over my hero

You stupid fool

Oh you thought I was such a dream

But that was all I was

I was just what you wanted of me

I was never really me

You poor thing

You gave me everything

And I take all I can

It's over my hero

you're so broken

You were under me my hero

All of the time

You're over my hero

and where are you now?

I've used you up

And now you're alone

How could you not see that I arranged it all?

You trust so easily

So blind to the truth that you followed me

I'm the winner here

As I always am

You're the one that's left behind

It's over my hero

goodbye my dear

It's all over my hero

Enjoy your newfound fear

You were all over my hero

Now you're nowhere near

Over, my hero

Catherine Wheeler - Over My Hero

Alice Seska Mosse: Came to Jhenge as a petty officer on board the Nylell-Darmen R/D ship, then aquired an IT/Comms position on the 'orbital mind control laser' - one of Catherine Wheelers favourite toys. Alice has always been pushed into remote jobs because of her drug abuse and metal fetish. Erratic fashion sense - often just wears underwear and a Nylell trenchcoat. Covered in scars from self-mutilation.

Melissa Bainbridge: Security chief from the Nylell-Darmen R/D ship.

Doctor Malley: A 'rogue scientist' - A Nylell-Darmen researcher who's design interests were deemed unprofitable. Setting up on Heartland he raised funds by offering (illegal) panimmunity and anti-aging nanotech upgrades (two customers that the RCIA know about are Takeshi, a Yakuza boss and Yuell, the assan ambassador.) The funds go into spindle drive research and he is associated with the anthropophagi 'Sandy One'.

Randomness: It has always been understood by the scientific human mind
that there is only pseudorandomness - no matter how unpredictable
a system is there are always patterns and causuality. Deterministic. However, from studying the entities known as the anthropophagi I have seen the heart of true randomness. A world in which there can be events with no causes.

1Zucchini note: The RCIA will probably 'liquidate' this particular 'asset', something obviously went wrong in Stacey's growth program.
