Not Appearing In This Alphabet

1 Conversation

Why NAITA? Well, the Norwegian (and Danish) character Ø used to end up as ] or even worse =29 (or something) in Usenet postings, so signing with my given name made me look like the newbie I was. Using the plain old O with a rant about the stupidity of having only 26 letters was my way of coping with this disadvantage until I was dubbed "Sir Not-Appearing-In-This-Alphabet" on the Usenet newsgroup alt.fan.monty-python in 1995. Shortening it to NAITA was a logical step and I've used it all over the Internet ever since.

It regularly causes people to think I'm female, but it's too late to change it now.
