Royal Portrush

Located on the North Coast of Norhern Ireland about 15 miles away from the Giants Causeway Portrush has in the words of Gary Player, the South African golfing great, one of the best championship courses in the world.

It received it's Royal moniker when Edward VII played on the course while Prince of Wales and it is the last Irish links course to have hosted the Open.

The course is a typically rough and testeing links course laid out on the dunes to the East of Portrush made all the harder by the winds which come of the Atlantic. It has hosted the Senior British Open on numerous occasions in recent years and many of the greats have enjoyed their rounds at Royal Portrush some of them even having played in both the Open and the senior version on the same course.

To my great shame, I'm yet to visit Ireland. But when I do, I'd love to play this course. My Dad's played it - said he loved it. smiley - smiley
