St Andrews Old Course

Why?
It is the classic course. It always produces a worthy Open champion and lots of incidents. The Road Hole, bunkers and it is in the nicest part of the country - Fife! The downside is that it gets harder to get a tee time and more expensive too.

Sam

Have you played there? I've never played - always wanted to. I've walked around it, on the beach (where the famous 'running' scene was filmed in Chariot's of Fire).

If you have played there, do you have any particualr memories you'd like to share?

Please tell me more!!

It would be good to make a pilgrimage there as the "Home of Golf." smiley - coolsmiley - winkeye

Although, don't know if you can clear this up for me? smiley - erm I heard that Scotland, St. Andrews was the first place the game was played back in the 15th Century, but I also hear the Dutch lay claim to it (as, apparently, they claim to have invented curling as well!).
Personally I favour Scotland's claim. Afterall, how many Dutch golfers do you know, plus the land is way too flat for a golf course to present much of a challenge! smiley - biggrinsmiley - laugh

Oh and St Andrews is the home of Golf, it was played here in the 14th Century i think, the old course is 600 years old and still in better condition than my back garden, If its not the homeplace then it is most definetly the oldest.

Yes I have "played" the course. Generous fairways meant I could hack round under 100 but not by much. It is a peculiar fact but residents of Stan Drews can hand their washing out under an old bye law on the 18th/1st fairways on a Sunday - when the course used to be closed for play. Of course nobody trying this would survive 5 minutes.
