Inside the Towers - The View Changes
Created | Updated Nov 25, 2004
Shortly after my entry on Bush House appeared on the Front Page, I was
politely asked to leave the building. I guess writing that entry kind of
gave the game away that I was in there. It's something that I had been
expecting since I started working for h2g2, but what I didn't anticipate is
that the entire h2g2 team would be asked to leave with me.
Still, it's not as bad as it sounds, Bush House is getting very crowded
as more staff join, and so they1 have
to keep moving people around. We moved from the second to the fourth floor
about 7 months ago while they redecorated it, and now we've been moved
totally out of the building. Because we're a self-contained
team2, we're very easy to move without
affecting lots of other people.
We've only moved a short distance, to an office building a ten minute walk
(or twenty minute dawdle if you're me) away from Bush House in a room that
is much quieter than the large open plan office that we've just left.
Actually, it's probably the open plan office that's a lot quieter since
we've left...
We're not sure how long we're here for, but as it's not a BBC building,
it's not a permanent home. Although that's a shame, because it's opposite
some handy shops, right next door the tube station, and it has a kitchen
rather than a prehistoric vending machine. And the cleaners even wash
our mugs up.
The only problem with the building is that the view isn't very inspiring,
and the canteen suddenly seems a very long walk away...
a television or radio program.
