I found this entry fascinating! ESL or english as a second language is a universal river to cross these days. The 'bridge' of language is so transitory that one often finds the road bed shifting beneath your verbal feet. Language is living, shape shifting, yet we attempt to contain it within static devices, like dictianaries and lexicons. The web, for example, is so darn particular about how you enter things when searching et cetera. Curiously, it is my understanding that the english of choice for the under layment of the internet is the blander American flavour.
As if the cutsie alterations advertising inflicts on the mother tongue weren't damaging enough! It is also good to reflect on the tech device containers and their impact on this inter-language quest. We are apparently about a year from the widespread availability of hand held language translators. Will this stagnate the living language? Or will the historic pidgeon languages continue to operate? Or, will we all communicate with cyber generated international icons of some sort similar to the international road signage???
