I'd have spent the last two New Year's Eves alone.
As it was, I was logged on and into h2g2 & talking to friends on IM.
I still had to go to bed alone but at least I know there are people out there who love me and want to spend time talking with me. 
The internet is not a replacement for RL, but it makes my RL more bearable.
