For many parties, nothing goes past chicken nuggets + sauce (sweet chilli works particularly well), and chicken wingdings (tiny parts of chicken ie wings, drumsticks..) The trick with wingdings is to crumb them, not marinade, because the marinade sauce goes all over the fingers and wiping sauce clean is *such* a chore...

For slightly more sophisticated parties, a platter of salmon, cheese and biscuits goes down well, along with small bits of kabana sausage and (for some) dill pickles. Hot food for the sophisticates tends to be more complex food, the more obscure the better.
