Surely Guy Fawkes night celebrates Guy Fawkes's attempt at blowing up Parliament, not that he was foiled??? smiley - winkeye

Yeah, this should be the case, I think

I feel there's something very forelock-tugging about all this "Oh, this man be trying to blow up our leaders, see us burn him in effigy. Oo-arr, my maaaaaaaaaster"

I'm not really here

no, the page is right. Guy Fawkes was captured just as the day was turning from the 4th to the 5th, and that's the day his interrogation and torture (to reveal the names of the others) began. It was also the day that some of them where injured in an accidental explosion.
So it's the celebration of him getting caught.

There's a really good website that I can't link to that has the details behind this. smiley - smiley

Well yes that's the /official/ reason. But we all know Guy Fawkes is a hero really! smiley - smiley

P.S My brother was born on Nov 5th to the sound of Fireworks!
