Has the government really got the right idea about the Internet? Not if this (fictional) news article has any truth in it...

Tony Blair today put his thumb to his nose, stuck out his tongue, blew a large raspberry, and shouted "Ner ner-ner ner ner" down the emergency hotline at George Dubya Bush. The call happened early this morning and, aides say, was timed perfectly to take place in the middle of the night, USA time.

Mr Blair's excuse for his childish antics was simple, he said. "For once I have beaten Dubya at something," he told our reporter excitedly. "And I didn't even have to bomb anyone! My website is better than his! Ha!"

Gregory T Mullet, international man of mystery and crackpot Internet expert, agrees with Mr Blair. "Bush's site looks someone with a mental age of six designed it," he said. "In fact, Bush probably designed it himself."

Dubya was said to be "mildly annoyed" at Mr Blair for disturbing him, but close friend Douglas Ramsbottom, Chief Executive of an American oil company, told us "Georgey boy will forgive him. He'll just see it as payback for kicking Blair's ass over Star Wars."

If you are interested in viewing Mr Blair's site, you can visit http://www.number10.gov.uk. If you want to view Dubya's site, then there's really something wrong with you.

I think we should be worried about the way the Internet is going in this country. What with the RIP bill, the monopolies and the great telco rip-off, are we ever going to be top dog so far as the Internet is concerned?
