Don't know if I have it spelled right, but the building that most blew me away was the Cathedral at Bataillho in Portugal where Henry the Navigator is buried; the Unknown Soldier's tomb was also there. When I went there in the 80's there was no admission, and except for one or two other people and a lone soldier guarding the Tomb of the Unknown, my friend and I were there alone. Inside this huge Cathedral, which had no furniture (pews, etc.), the walls seemed to soar up forever and were pierced by large and gorgeous stained glass windows. There was a cloistered walk in the churchyard - I seem to recall it was part of a monastery. The entire area was beautifully built and very still and I really don't recall ever being so impressed with any other building that I have seen.
