The Greatest Steak and Ale Pie in the Land
During a summer holiday my wife and I decided to visit the lovely town of Arundel in West Sussex. It was lunch time when we arrived and the first thing we aimed for was a restaurant1.
The place we chose was a quaint, very old looking, Hotel/Restaurant called Arundel House. I chose the, now Infamous in my home, Steak and Ale Pie for my dinner.
That was four years ago. I have been on a quest ever since, to find an equal or better to that Pie. However there is none! I have tried pies in Yorkshire, the Lake district, various towns around the country and none have surpassed Arundel House in Ale Pie perfection. The service is friendly, very reasonable cost. The rest of the menu is very good as well
The PIE itself
The PIE is of the Puff Pastry variety and comes in a Porcelein Oval dish. It contains the largest amount of actual meat in it that I have ever seen in a pie. It is always piping hot when you receive it and stays that way due to the dish. You have the choice of chips or potatoes and seasonal vegetables.
My advice, if you ever happen to visit Arundel, is to go and check out said Hotel.
NB: They are only open for lunch, not evening meals. Also not I think on Mondays. I advise ringing first.
If I seem a little obsessive over the Pie, then I suggest you try it and you will be hooked. Yes my wife does think I am strange since she doesn't eat meat!
