Norse Mythology, the Norns

0 Conversations

The three Norn sisters live by the well Urdarbrunnur by the root that Yggdrasil has in Asgard. They decide the length of all men’s and god’s lives and nobody can change their decision. Their names are Urd (meaning “fate”), Verdandi (meaning “necessity”) and Skuld (meaning “being”). The fates are neither human nor gods but something in between.

The tree Yggdrasil is subject to age and decay as are all trees but the sisters help the tree by pouring water from the well onto it’s roots and branches.
