i do believe having lived in the area briefly, a while ago now, it is common place to kiss 4 times to say hello, not the usual 2 or 3 like other parts of france! can anyone confirm.

Well, it varies, but 4 is quite usual around here, although 2 had become more common these last few years, especially among youngsters.
I think 3 is more of a southern practise.
