I completely forgot about these ...

Aniseed Balls ... were these the heaviest sweets known to man? The red coating that melted your fillings, the sickly white sugary base coats and ultimately the gobstopperesque seed. They'd make your tongue, lips and anything else that they touched go a violent red colour and your head would go numb if you ate too many.

What's more they were the hardest thing known to man. I remember when I was about 10, at school we had the old fashioned desks with the flip top lids. A friend of mine decided to try and smash an Aniseed ball by putting it under the lid and slamming it shut. Oops! The lid of the desk was split in two and the aniseed ball was unscathed ...

Ahh ... those were the days!
