More Popular Than Michael Jackson!

It seems on H2G2, Weird Al is more popular than Michael Jackson. Where his entry has a mere two forum posts (both of them not complimentery) Weird Al has many fans posting under his entry.

Go Al!!!

Not sure that says much about the h2g2 community

Au contraire, it shows the relative appreciation of humour in h2g2 is much higher than in the general populus - not that this should be news to anyone.

Certainly Weird Al's lyrics are much better than MJ has written...

I'm sure in your opinion Al's lyrics are 'better' and that in comparison with the general populus you are also more appreciative of humour. Whatever.

Did you read the Michael Jackson entry?
I suspect not. As I suspect many others have not.
Probably because of existing preconceptions regarding the man in question.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A537662 if you're at all interested. You could also comment. After all, h2g2 is also a place for reading things about which you don't know.

No, but I have now. Very concise, given the humungous amount of bull that's been written about the man.

Nope.

Thriller hit the charts when I was into music in a big way: I found it hard to believe that the Michael Jackson I remembered from the Jackson Five could produce something so s**t-kickingly good (it even got a good review from Kerrangg (or however many 'r's and 'g's there are in it) and that's saying something).

However, I stick to my original treatise that lyrically Weird Al is way ahead on points - have you actually tried reading the lyrics to "Bad"? - quite an appropriate title, IMHO.

Though maybe there's another reason for there being more interest in Weird Al on these pages than MJ - simply that (as pointed out in your article) he has had an inordinate amount of media coverage - people have had it up to here with it. I know I have.

Must go. Tempus fugit and all that

Phil
