Computers and self-modifying code
Wal Started conversation Feb 8, 2002
I once accidentally wrote some self-modifying (operating system) code which was intended to read some data from disk. Unfortunately it modified itself so that it converted the operating system's "disk read" command into a "disk write" command.
*EVERY* subsequent disk read corrupted part of the file system, very rapidly making the whole system utterly worthless.
Oh how I laughed!!

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
