Was there ever a large gang rumble in Epping Forest? There's a song by Genesis, "Battle of Epping Forest", which tells the story of one.
Battle of Epping Forest?

Lots of stories, not much evidence that any really happened. Most of the stories (legends, myths whatever) involved the two hill forts. Boudacea was supposed to have used then to defend against the Romans, Alfred the Great was supposed to have used them to defend against the Vikings.
Some local historians think they were built close together because they were on a tribal borderline, others say one was abandoned before the other was built. Either way, they were built there for a good reason - Epping Forest has the highest ground for miles round here so it's very easily defended. I think they may have had to chop a few trees down first though
And I haven't heard that Genesis track either. Time to have a rummage though my sister's record collection I think!
