The Mole

I wonder how many tourists have been totally puzzled by the tube map, particularly as it bears little relationship to how far apart the stations really are. Bill Bryson pointed out in his book Notes From a Small Island, that someone unfamiliar with London travelling from Bank Station to Mansion House would get on a Central Line train to Liverpool Street, transfer to the Circle Line and continue for another five stops to Mansion House and come out 200 yards down the road from where they began.
