This may sound obvious, but the soreness of noses is caused by the combination of damp mucus and almost constant rubbing of the nose whilst blowing it. So, to avoid a sore conk there are two things you can do:
a) Use tissues impregnated with a soothing balm lotion.
b) Blow your nose less often. It helps if you use an inhaler stick, or a menthol steam bath. Both clear the nose nicely - have a good blow straight away to clear away the 'debris', and hopefully you'll have a longer time between blows.

Petroleum jelly(vaseline0 is a truly wonderful cure for a sore nose and mouth due to a cold.Slather a really generous amount around your
nose and mouth before retiring for the night and in the morning the area should be feeling much less sore.

Vaseline is the only thing I can stand when my nose gets sore. Lotions sting, which makes the nose run and starts a vicious cycle. Never, ever use the medicated Vaseline, though...

Something I have discovered is most helpful for daytime is benzocaine. It stings for a bit, but then goes pleasantly numb...unfortunately, I am out of it at present.
