A Conversation for Non-alcoholic Drinks

Ginger Beer plants

Post 1

When I was a kid people used to have ginger beer plants, that you fed with sugar, they were yeast based. They slowly produced litres of real ginger beer.

I'd love to try it again. Does anyone have a starter recipe for a ginger beer plant?

The Researcher formally known as Dr St Justin

I don't have a recipe, but I do know where you can get starter kits - SOZO, in Warwick Arts Centre. At least, they used to sell them (last year). I'll have to have a look.

I've not had the courage to try one yet, but my Mum has told me of when she had one - it just kept going and going!

Just one thing Peta
The ginger beer plant works by using yeast and sugar,
Guess what that produces...

So they are not Non-alcoholic, the results are not very strong normally but if you let the fermentation run on you can get quite a firey ginger beer. Hic smiley - smiley
