Sorry but how can you write an article about Alan Moore without mentioning his work on 2000AD and in particular the simply excellent Dr and Quinch "Eat Plutonium death you repulsive alien weirdo"

Or From Hell, Moore's excellent treatment of the Ripper legend, which I even recommended to my mother who loved it! Surely, proof positive that not only are comics a medium that has come of age, but that Moore is so gifteda writer that his graphic novels are far superior to many ostensibly 'high-brow' works of conventional literature.

moore's first work, i believe, was some four-pagers for 2000ad annuals. sorry i cannot remember the year. he also did skizz for 2000ad. but i didn't like it as much as the one he did for 2000ad with davis art that i cannot remember the name of.

DR & Quinch? That was Moore and Davis...

Moore's work for 2000AD wasn't his first pro comics work - I think he did his own art on some strips for assorted Northampton newspapers and self-published for a bit, IIRC...

His first 2000AD work was probably either Future Shocks or Twisted Tales, yeah...

Actually, some of Moore's early work was with Marvel UK, doing the back-up strips for Doctor Who Weekly (as it was then).

One of the main strip writers for Doctor Who Monthly (as it became in the 80s) was Grant Morrison, the third of the (un)holy trinity of UK comics writers. Gaiman hasn't written any Doctor Who though.
